The key objective of this manual (and the accompanying workshop series/ annotated extracts) is to allow you to explore and better understand structural variation within and between different thesis formats. It specifically focuses on the relationship between language, rhetorical function, and structure within a thesis. In other words, it advises you on what can be included in your thesis and its chapters, and the type of language that can be used to achieve your objectives.

Please note the chapters of this annotated thesis are not presented in their full form. Instead, the most relevant excerpts are used to demonstrate structure, moves, and language use within chapters. Missing sentences/ paragraphs are highlighted using [...].
