RefWorks

This guide will provide you with tips and instructions on how to use RefWorks to best manage your references.

Remove Duplicates

RefWorks allows you to remove duplicates either from an entire project or from specific folders.

Entire Project

Find Duplicates

You can check for duplicates for an entire project in two ways:

  1. Top menu, under Tools, select Find Duplicates
  2. Left Menu, under Duplicates, click on Find Duplicates

In the Find Duplicates window pane, select the Primary Reference and Matching options that meet your needs, then click on Find Duplicates.

A message will appear to indicate the search has started, and on the left menu under Duplicates, a progress bar is displayed. While the search is ongoing, you can continue working in RefWorks or log out. When the search is complete, a notification will appear on the left. Click on it to view the list of duplicates.

If you missed the notification, or would like to check the list at a later time, click on "See last results" under Duplicates in the left Menu.

Delete Duplicates

To delete duplicates, click on "Delete" in the top menu, and choose either to delete Selected References only, or All Duplicates at once

Folders and Subfolders

Folders you Own

In the left menu, under Folders, Click on the 3 dots next to the folder in question, and select Find Duplicates   and adjust the settings to your need. If the folder has subfolders, you can choose to search for duplicates in the root folder only or in the subfolders as well.

Folders Shared with you

You can search for duplicates in a folder that has been shared with you by another user ONLY if you have "Can modify" access. Any changes made to a shared folder will be applied to all users of that folder.

If you run Find Duplicate from the top menu on a shared folder and you do not have the right to modify that folder, RefWorks will search for duplicates in your entire project instead.
