Similarly to searching for print book on the Search portal, limit your search results by "Book / eBook". You may also limit by "Book Chapter".
You may also look for e-books through particular databases, some of which have some additional steps to take to benefit the most from all the features on their platform:
If you come across a book of interest that is not accessible, do not hesitate to contact the library or to request it by filling the Suggest a title form. But if you are interested in a chapter or two only, then you may request them by filling the Document Delivery form.
Access the database directly from the library homepage. You may also browse all databases and access it from the list.
If you are off-campus, you might be redirected to enter your HBKU credentials; once you do, you will have access to the database and its content.
Once on the database's page, follow the steps below:
By creating your profile, you will be able to use all features (annotations, saving your selections, etc.):
Search for e-books using your keywords or browse by subject.
Click on the title of the selected book to open it.
If you'd like to keep this book for later use, add it to your Bookshelf and you'll be able to refer to it later. The Bookshelf can be organized by folders and facilitates access to your chosen content.
You may also annotate and highlight within the book. If/when you are signed in, these annotations and highlights will be saved.
To download and read the book offline, you will be required to install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) on your device (PC or tablet):
On iOS and Android devices, use the Adobe Digital Editions app, which is free from the App Store and Google Play. A free Adobe ID is also required to transfer the e-book to another device, but not if you’re just reading it on the same computer.
You may print or save as PDF a certain number of pages, depending on the permission given by the publisher. It will be stated on the page of each book, as well as on the printing screen.
More e-books can be accessed following the steps below:
Most databases allow downloading books either chapter by chapter as PDF, and some allow to download the whole book as one document.
Other databases enforces a limited number of pages to be printed/downloaded due to publisher's restrictions, but they would allow online reading of all chapters.
