Step 1 - Register
- Access Web of Science (WoS).
- Click on Register in the top right corner.
- Fill out your basic information and click on Register.
- Follow the instructions in the verification email sent to you.
If you have an account for Endnote, you can use the same credentials to sign in to Web of Science.
Step 2 - Add Publications
The first time you sign in to the platform will automatically search for publications using your name and email. When found, the system will import and list them. Select yours and Submit. If not all of your articles have been imported automatically, you can add them at a later stage in different ways.
- Sign in to Web of Science.
- Click on Menu in the left pane then select My Profile, a drop down list will appear .
- Click on the Edit (or pen icon) to update your profile.
- Click on +Add to add your publications manually; you will have 4 options :
- Add email addresses you've used when publishing. WoS will search for matching articles.
- Add using identifiers (DOI, PMID, arXiv ID or Title).
- Upload record files (RIS, BibTex, or CSV file).
- Sync to your ORCID iD (refer to the section below).
Claim Author Records/Profile
If you have publications in WoS, you have at least one author record.
- Click on Search to look for your generated profiles.
- In the Researchers tab, you may search by name (and all its variations), ORCID iD, and affiliations/organizations.
- When you find your profile(s), open the record(s) that is yours and click on Claim my record, then follow the instructions on the screen.
Once you've set your profile, you may modify it to reflect your personal information and scholarly contributions. You may also add a photo, edit your location/affiliation(s), add email address(es), and enable syncing with ORCID.
Merge Records
You can also request to merge Researcher records:
- Go to your name in the top right corner and choose Settings .
- Click on Account Settings .
- Choose Delete/merge account and follow instructions on screen .
Step 3 - Connect your ResearcherID & ORCID iD
Syncing with ORCID allows you to manage both profiles from one location, saving you time and making updates simpler.
- First, go to ORCID and link it to your ResearcherID profile (steps found here).
- Then, go to your ResearcherID Profile > My records > Publications > +Add > Sync with ORCiD > Enabling ORCiD import sync in your profile settings.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete synchronization.
After you connect your account, choose options for the sync process. You can push articles to ORCID, pull articles down from ORCID, add your reviews to ORCID and you can also update manually.
Add ORCID iD to your profile
- Go to your name in the top right corner and choose Settings .
- Click on Account Settings .
- Choose Connected accounts.
- Click on Connect next to ORCID iD and follow instructions on screen.
Keep your profile up to date
You can keep your profile current with:
- Automatic updates: WoS automatically adds publications to your profile for you. This is automatically enabled for your profile, but you can opt out at any time through your profile settings: Edit Profile > Publication Preferences.
- ORCID syncing: connect your profile to your ORCID account, and enable syncing: Edit Profile > ORCID Syncing.
- Manual updates: Add email addresses you've used when publishing, add publications using identifiers like DOIs or PubMed IDs, or manually upload a file.

Metrics
Author Metrics displays the author’s h-index, Total Publications, sum of Times Cited, and Citing Articles. Also, the author position displays the percentage of times the author was First Author, Last Author, and Corresponding Author. For additional information, check here.
